چکیده

The well-known analytic solution for a spheromak in a cylindrical flux conserver is generalized to the situation of finite b with the shape of the flux conserver now being a dependent quantity. Analytic expressions are found for the poloidal flux surfaces, beta, the safety factors at both the magnetic axis and the wall, and the wall profile. A large reversed shear ~i.e., ratio of safety factor on magnetic axis to safety factor at the wall! can be obtained at finite beta. This feature may be important because reversed shear in the core of tokamaks has been shown to permit stable operation at high b. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1482071#

Buckling of Cylindrical Steel Shells with Random Imperfections due to Global Shear

This study aims to investigate the effects of geometric imperfections on buckling of thin cylindrical shells due to global shear. To this end, more than 320 finite element models of cylindrical shells with different diameter to thickness ratios were prepared. Random imperfections with different amplitudes were applied to numerical models. The results revealed that global buckling of cylindrical...

Spectroscopic Flow and Ion Temperature Studies of a Large s FRC

The Swarthmore Spheromak Experiment (SSX) produces a large s FRC by merging counterhelicity spheromaks within a cylindrical flux conserver. Past results have shown that the toroidal fields in each spheromak do not annihilate even after the poloidal flux appears to have completely reconnected. This would suggest a radially directed current density at the midplane, and therefore a radially sheare...

Free Vibration of Functionally Graded Cylindrical Shell Panel With and Without a Cutout

The free vibration analysis of the functionally graded cylindrical shell panels  with and without cutout is carried out using the finite element method based on a higher-order shear deformation theory. A higher-order theory is used to properly account for transverse shear deformation. An eight noded degenerated isoparametric shell element with nine degrees of freedom at each node is considered....

Effect of Material Gradient on Stresses of FGM Rotating Thick-Walled Cylindrical Pressure Vessel with Longitudinal Variation of Properties under Non-uniform Internal and External Pressure

The present paper provides a semi-analytical solution to obtain the displacements and stresses in a functionally graded material (FGM) rotating thick cylindrical shell with clamped ends under non-uniform pressure. Material properties of cylinder are assumed to change along the axial direction according to a power law form. It is also assumed that the Poisson’s ratio is constant. Given the exist...

Yarn pulling out test and numerical solution of penetration into woven fabric target impregnated with shear thickening fluid using SiO2 /Polyethylene Glycol

In this paper, finite element model of woven fabric target has been investigated which is impacted by a cylindrical projectile. Fabrics are impregnated with Shear Thickening Fluid (STF). The effects of the (STF) have been considered as frictional effect. The STF has been made (Nano Silica and Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)) and then diluted by ethanol proportion of 3:1. Yarn pulling out test from in...
